My name is Don Popravak and I am a candidate for District 233 Homewood-Flossmoor High School Board of Education. On Tuesday April 7th our community will elect 3 individuals to the board for a term of four years. I am asking you for your vote on April 7th. The issues that I see as critical are:

• Significant Academic Improvement Needed

The current ranking of Homewood-Flossmoor High School amongst its peers in the State of Illinois points is heading in the wrong direction. In 2007 H-F High School was ranked 62nd out of 633 high schools in the state and in 2008 it has fallen to a rank of 93rd, a fifty percent decline in its ranking. Additionally, it has failed to make its yearly progress with NCLB. Both of these situations are unacceptable and untenable. A strong, highly ranked high school will provide its community with the economic vitality it needs to stabilize and improve property values. We must demand strong school board leadership in order to provide the necessary direction for our high school. The school board needs to develop an ambitious vision, with specific goals and challenges necessary for our district superintendent to vaults us to the top of the state rankings. Hire talented teachers, and provide them with all the necessary tools to teach a challenging curriculum.

• Improve School Funding State funding is inequitable and must be addressed and changed our taxpayers deserve it since their property taxes represent approximately 70% of Homewood-Flossmoor High Schools budget.

• Communications We must keep open all our lines of communications with all members of our community be it academic or citizens.

• Residency Issues It is critical that we aggressively pursue all individuals who violate our district policy and take vital resources away from our taxpayers children.
