Modern military weapon systems are extremely sophisticated, relying on state-of-the-art technologies to achieve performance only dreamed of just a few years ago. Many of the technologies utilized in these weapon systems, ranging from electronics and printed circuit boards to microwave tubes and batteries, are commercial-off-the-shelf - the majority of which are designed, manufactured, packaged and tested off-shore. Those that are not commercial items typically have issues with maintaining the industrial base. These facts raise concerns in the areas of supply chain stability, trust, reliability and quality, and U.S. innovation.
The Critical Technologies Conferences, which will take place aboard NSWC Crane at the Lakeview Conference Center on October 19-20, was organized by the Southern Indiana Section of the American Society of Naval Engineers The conference will provide a forum for leadership and technical experts from government, industry, and academia, to exchange ideas and information on these issues. The theme of the conference is "Trusted Technologies for DoD Systems.
