The Innovation Simulation Workshop immerses participants in an experiential learning simulation that engages them as an employee of a company producing locally while competing in a global economy.
Participants identify their individual thinking styles and explore how to successfully participate in a high performing work team that utilizes a structured approach to solve the “customer’s tough problem.” Participants will create new product innovations that will generate revenue and realize profit in a highly competitive market.
The Scenario: Glocal Co. is a multinational industry leader that “thinks global and acts local.” They are issuing a new solicitation for an innovative product design and want local companies to collaborate to conceptualize and commercialize the product. The product is to be sold in domestic and international markets.
The work team(s) will have to “innovate” a new product as well as “innovate” new marketing materials that meet the challenge of the customer and their the international marketplace.
The two major competitors for this work are Widget Inc. and Gadget Inc. Both have strengths and weakness specific to their respective capabilities and resources.
Both will have to apply techniques that help them: 1. Define the problem using the customer’s voice 2. Develop the real customer requirements 3. Qualify the opportunity & baseline constraints 4. Propose technical solutions 5. Resolve contradictions in the technical solutions 6. Develop an innovative prototype for customer approval 7. Establish international marketing plans 8. Price product to sell to the market profitably
