The Taste of Hoboken comes of age. The annual Hoboken-North Hudson YMCA’s gala fundraiser celebrates its twenty-second anniversary this year on Tuesday November 10, 2009 at Hoboken’s Stevens Institute.

In addition to tasty bites from over 42 restaurants, bakeries and cafes, this year’s event will feature an expanded selection of quality wines from all over the world. For the first time in the fundraiser’s history, guests will be able to sample over 50 wines, beers and a premium vodkas, rums and tequilas.

“We are pulling out all the stops,” promises Ken Nilsen, chair of the planning committee. YMCA.

“The Taste of Hoboken has always been a fabulous food event,” explains Julie Gallanty, Executive Director of the Hoboken YMCA, “Our participating restaurants have been generous in donating their house specialties, time and services to support the YMCA. But the wine component was weak. Now it’s going to be spectacular all-round.”

In addition to live music and dancing, the YMCA will be sponsoring a silent auction. Items will include private wine-tastings, Broadway theater tickets, graduate courses at Stevens Institute, Spa services, high-end photo portraits and family pool memberships at private housing developments.

The event will be held at Stevens’ Shafer Arena. Tickets prices to the event are $80 per person for the Champagne Preview (6 pm) and $60 for general admission (7 pm) at the door. “We’ve kept ticket prices deliberately low for an event of this magnitude as the YMCA is looking to foster a strong sense of community,” Gallanty explains.

All funds raised from “The Taste of Hoboken” will be invested in the YMCA’s programs and facilities. Last year, the event generated about $43,000.

Eleven sponsors are supporting this event. They include: Applied Development Companies,IRMS Reproductive Medicine at Saint Barnabas Hospital, Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken Reporter, Haven Savings Bank, Paul J. Somerville Designs Inc., PNC Bank, Hufnagel Landscaping Inc., Stevens Dining Service and Hoboken University Medical Center.

Tickets go on sale September 29th at the YMCA’s membership desk as well as Haven Savings Bank, Castle Point Realty and The Hudson Reporter. For more information, call the Hoboken-North Hudson YMCA at 201-963-4100 or our website at www.hobokenYMCA.org
