TENTH ANNUAL U.S.-CHINA TRADE CONFERENCE "Economic Landscape Post Global Recession"

While the rest of the world has experienced significant economic downturns, China continues to report an enviable annualized growth rate of approximately 8%. Will China overtake the U.S. as the economic powerhouse post the global recession?

• Facing pressure internationally and externally, both the U.S. and China have turned to a more protective approach in their trade policies. The uncertainty and increases in import tariff and disputes will create unprecedented challenges to companies, particularly SME’s that are struggling to expand market overseas and manage cost through imports.

• The economic stimulus packages by the U.S. and China might have jumpstarted the economy in the short run; however, the continued, uncontrolled investments in capital goods might lead to unstoppable excess capacity, particularly in China, which would have a much long lasting negative impact on the global economy.

• Seizing the opportunities, Chinese companies are much more acquisitive. However, there are more talks than actions. How can both U.S. and Chinese companies create more opportunities and benefits from those cross border transactions?
