Following the successful 2008 edition Zanders is organizing the second Zanders Risk Management seminar in 2009. Last year the key issues and challenges aimed at rescuing a number of financial institutions. One year down the road the banks' balance sheets have changed dramatically. Governments have got a far more dominant position in the financial world.
Since the height of the crisis one of the most fundamental questions has been: has anything genuinely changed in the risk management policy of financials and in their thinking in terms of risks? An even more pressing question is: where do we go from here when it comes to supervision of these institutions?
Specialists in the financial world will additionally zoom in on underlying questions such as: do the Basel II and Solvency II guidelines now have sufficient effect and flexibility to keep the new circumstances under control? To what extent is the present legislation still fit for purpose and where did risk managers and regulators go wrong? The answers to these questions are not always clear-cut, but addressing them will definitely be conducive to the development of risk management.
The second Zanders Risk Management Seminar will be held on Wednesday 2 December 2009, with speakers who are individually responding to the crisis and dealing with the above issues in their own way. From different perspectives the following specialists will set out their views on recent developments and on deficiencies in risk management:
Dick Sluimers: Chief Executive Officer - Algemene Pensioen Groep (APG), Pim Poppe: Director of Group Risk Management - SNS REAAL, Maarten Gelderman: Financial Stability - De Nederlandsche Bank/Dutch Central Bank (until August 2009 he was DNB's Head of Quantitative Risk Management and chairman of the Validation subgroup of the Basel Committee).
After the speakers have given their views on the latest developments from their respective standpoints there will be an opportunity for a discussion and drinks. You are more than welcome to attend the seminar.
