The conference will turbo-charge links between northwest Ireland and the USA by bringing together some of the prime movers in economic development in both the Derry region and New England, led by Northern Ireland Minister for Regional Development Conor Murphy and Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Timothy Murray.
Focusing on strategies to underpin the peace with jobs, the gathering will also look at ways in which the US can benefit from closer links with the northwest. The conference provides an opportunity for the New England academic, business and community development sectors to show Irish investors and organizations how they can benefit by partnering US institutions, companies and cities.
Participants from Ireland include Minister Conor Murphy, the Strategic Investment Board, the Derry development company ILEX, Magee College and west Ireland regeneration body Údarás na Gaeltachta, and entrepreneur Garvan O’Doherty of Derry.
The Boston side includes Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray, Senate President Theresa Murray, State Treasurer Timothy Cahill, Rep. Gene O’Flaherty, the Massachusetts Port Authority (MASSPORT), the Boston Irish Business Association (BIBA), the Irish American Partnership, entrepreneur John Cullinane, and the Boston-based Moynihan Group.
This conference will reignite the Boston-Northwest Ireland linkages at a time when the city of Derry and surrounding region is being transformed. Further, the conference provides us with the opportunity to showcase the attractions of Massachusetts as a business location and to learn from the Irish peacemaking experience.
