DFW IT Pro August 5th UG - Virtualization Ecosystem- Citrix, HyperV and VmWare
August 5, 2010 at 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Microsoft Las Colinas , Irving
During our August 5th DFW IT Pro User Group meeting we will be talking about the Aspects of virtualization and the Major Players in virtualization.
The Aspects of Virtualization include:
1. Server Virtualization The practice of partitioning a single server so that it appears as multiple servers has long been common practice in mainframe computers, but has seen a resurgence lately with the development of virtualization software and technologies for other architectures.
2. Application virtualization is an umbrella term that describes software technologies that improve portability, manageability and compatibility of applications by encapsulating them from the underlying operating system on which they are executed.
3. Desktop virtualization (sometimes called client virtualization), as a concept, separates a personal computer desktop environment from a physical machine using a client–server model of computing. The model stores the resulting "virtualized" desktop on a remote central server, instead of on the local storage of a remote client; thus, when users work from their remote desktop client, all of the programs, applications, processes, and data used are kept and run centrally.
The major software players in virtualization:
1. VMWare
2. Citrix
3. Microsoft
