What better way to enjoy the fun and sun of summer than a little Christmas shopping? The annual Old Mission Montessori School (OMMS) “Christmas in July” festival boasts the handiwork of 175 artisan booths. Top that off with a variety of foods, local talent, and a spectacular kids’ zone, and you have a community event that draws artists, families, and visitors from across southern California and beyond. This year, the festivities will take place on Saturday, July 11th and Sunday, July 12th. Carefully selected artisans dot the grounds of the historic Mission San Luis Rey Parish – selling everything from seasonal décor to handmade jewelry to fine art. Some of the unique, handmade products on display and for sale at this year’s fair include: scented gel candles from Way Cool Candles; custom jewelry from a variety of artists including Jewelry by Olga and Bijoux Art; no sew quilt blocks from Captured Colors; and hand embroidery and woodworking from A and C Crafts. In addition to crafts, the event offers a farmers’ market full of fresh flowers and locally grown fruits and vegetables; the popular Sister Gladys’ rummage sale; and homemade baked goods, ethnic foods, as well as traditional festival favorites such as snow cones and hotdogs. Kids will love the face painting and old-fashioned carnival games with prizes. Dancers, singers, and karate studios grace the entertainment stage throughout the weekend. The live auction on Sunday at 2PM always gets people excited- especially when they scoop up some great deals.
